Redskins Rides is a charity fundraiser car show that raises funds for both the Easterns Community Care Foundation and the Redskins Charitable Foundation. Easterns donates over $250,000 per year to countless charities. Two of the main charities that the Easterns Community Care Foundation has donated proceeds from Redskins Rides to recently is The Military Order of the Purple Heart and to the Wounded Warrior Project.
The Purple Heart is awarded to members of the armed forces of the U.S. who are wounded by an instrument of war in the hands of the enemy and posthumously to the next of kin in the name of those who are killed in action or die of wounds received in action. It is specifically a combat decoration.
Funds for welfare, rehabilitation and/or service work carried on by the organization are derived through various sources, including donation of automobiles and at the community level. Contributions not only help the veterans who participate in these endeavors but they also enable the organization to do many things on behalf of hospitalized and needy veterans and their families.
The purpose of the Wounded Warrior Project is to raise awareness and enlist the public’s aid for the needs of the injured service members, to help the injured service members aid and assist each other, and to provide unique, direct programs and services to meet their needs.
The Easterns Community Care Foundation has also had the pleasure of giving back by thanking and rewarding a distinguished educator. Every year the District of Columbia Public Schools nominates a teacher of the year as well as hold a “District of Columbia Public Schools (DCPS) Welcome Back Ceremony” for all new and old teachers. In 2008, proceeds from Redskins Rides went to the “2008 Eastern Motors Teacher of the Year.” This teacher received a brand new Hyundai. The winning teacher came from a school with at least 10 percent gains in student test scores.
The Easterns Community Care Foundation has helped change the lives of local families in need with car donations, especially during the holidays as shown on FOX 5 NEWS. They have also helped feed the hungry through donations and food drives for DC Central Kitchen and Easterns was responsible for feeding over 1000 families in the Northern Virginia area through Herndon Without Hunger.
We thank all those that participate and contribute to Redskins Rides!! Without your help we would not be able to help others in such an impactful way! The fundraising though Redskins Rides really has made a difference.
